The imagination series (2): What do imagination leaders have that

Written on :

Loners who care only for themselves spit on the common good - Proverbs 18 v 1 (MSG)

If there is one issue I strongly believe plagues Africa, I think it's the inadequate use of our imagination to create a better environment for ourselves. The use of our imagination to create innovative solutions for issues peculiar to our environment.  So who are imagination leaders TM ? Just like we have thought leaders such as John C Maxwell, Micheal Porter, we have imagination leaders like Steve Jobs, Walt Disney. What do imagination leaders have that you need to succeed? Its a BHAG. Big Hairy Audacious Goals. Now, if you did the exercise in my previous post. I applaud you (If you didn’t, you should, just go here) but let’s take a step back and evaluate what you wrote. I need you to review everything you wrote down in every category and ask yourself the following questions: Is my vision big?  I.e. Is it beyond me? Is my vision hairy? i.e. will it need big balls? (no pun intended) Is it audacious? i.e. will i need to take bold steps? Does it solve a problem or give to society? Now, it’s ok to have a vision about your personal life, family etc. but please step out of that me-myself-and-i thinking and add a vision to your notes that changes society. A vision that leaves a mark and makes an impact on the society. We need to go beyond wanting cars, houses, more money etc. These are all good but if you take a step beyond all of this to create a vision that gives back to society, you actually get to achieve all of that and more. Bill gates dared to dream of a world where everyone could use the computer easily Mark Zuckerberg dared to build a social platform that connects over 900m people Jeff Bezos dared to build the largest e-commerce site on the planet Buhari dared to believe he could become president of Nigeria and he can’t change Nigeria alone. The private sector has a role to play. You and I have a role to play So reevaluate your vision and think of an area where you can give back and contribute to growth in the society. Like I wrote in my earlier post, don’t focus on the HOW. Just think about the WHAT. That's a very important point. You should read it again In my next post, we’ll work on building a vision board. This is where we cut out pictures that are related to our vision and put them on a board. This way your vision is constantly in your line of sight. I can't wait to show you how. Stay remarkable! Tomie
