Road trips and no rest stops (

Written on :

A few days ago, I took a 3 hour road trip to Osun state (A state in Western Nigeria) I was invited to speak to 5,000+ students at the Obafemi Awolowo University, one of the most iconic universities in Nigeria, on how to create the future I had a ridiculously great time speaking to the students and sharing the stage with other amazing speakers. The students all had a truck load of positive energy and made the event really impactful and memorable for us. Once the event was over, we (I and one of the other speakers) hit the roads to try and make it back to Lagos state before dark. A couple of minutes into our journey back, one of us needed a bathroom break. We stopped at over 5 fuel stations on the express way hoping to find a clean bathroom but we didn't find one. To be honest, I don't take a lot of road trips and that's because I'm pretty useless in motion; I can't read or do anything meaningful when I'm seated in a moving car without getting a bad headache. Going on this road trip was a major decision for me but I decided to face my fears. I did face my fears and I enjoyed the trip to the venue. However, I hardly go on road trips so I have honestly never really been in a situation where I had to take a bathroom break and couldn't find a rest stop. This expereince reminded me of the analogy I always give when I teach members of the Green Club about investing. If investing is a journey, then rest-stops are the investment goals you set on your journey. Rest stops are necessary to help you stay motivated and strengthen you to continue to work towards the finish line -financial freedom For instance, you may need to make a rest-stop to pay off your debt and feel less uncomfortable on your journey and that's fine. It is a good decision to get rid of a debt burden. Sometimes you'll need to stop and face it head on. While on this rest-stop, you might not be able invest as much as you would love to but that's fine. You know once you're done, you can continue on your journey with less burden It might be a necessary fuel re-fill stop to strategize on how to increase your income so you can re-invest additional income. Do you need to write some exams or improve your networking skills to get you your dream job? or maybe, you're the kind of driver that can easily drive 20 miles without stopping. hmm...you'll probably need a Ferarri with a lot of speed for that...Lol
